How To Change Time Signature In Finale

Time signatures

Noteman says: View the Changing the time signature QuickStart Video for an overview.

  1. Choose the Time Signature tool , and double-click the measure where the time will change. The Time Signature dialog box appears.
  2. Click the scroll bar arrows for the upper and lower numbers until the window displays the desired time signature. The upper curl bar governs the upper number (beats per mensurate) of the fourth dimension signature; the lower one governs the bottom number (the rhythmic value) of the time signature.

The way yous define your meter is important, because information technology also governs beaming. In the case of cut time, for case, you should set the scroll bars so that the display shows 2 half notes, significant that the eighth notes will be beamed together in groups of 4. This is particularly important when you lot're working in six/8 or any chemical compound meter; if you "spell" the time signature as a cord of six eighth notes, Finale won't perform whatsoever automated eighth-note beaming, as shown below (acme example). If you "spell" information technology as two dotted quarter notes, however, Finale beams 8th notes in groups of three (bottom example). Run into Beaming for further important information on time signatures and effulgent patterns.

  3. Specify the range of measures you want to be afflicted by the meter change.
  4. Click OK (or press Return) to confirm your changes.
